I visited Hauser & Wirth in London's Saville Row to see the Louise Bourgeois exhibit. Gallery staff did not allow me to take any pictures. I managed to take a picture of the giant marble sculpture of a spider from outside the gallery. The spider stood in contrast to woven fabric works in graphical colors and patterns, some in a web pattern.
The spider provides a counterpoint to the woven artworks,
is a signature theme for the artist which appeared in different sizes in
different cities. It represents her mother who was an expert at
spinning and weaving. The spider which creates a web to protect,
provides further symbolism for her mother.
